Crewcut Idol

I'm not sure if I'm still on my "Jenna Lyons on Oprah" high, but reading the J.Crew catalogue after a long day was is a particularly blissful experience for me this week - especially after spotting this Crewcuts spread starring a very awesomely dressed brunette youngster. I'm not sure if it's cause she's pulling off the haircut I've always wanted so well, or that I'm just really diggin her bandanna and round sunglasses, but this little lady stole the J.Crew May 10th catalogue for me.

Garbonzos!

I learned from New York Magazine this week that fresh garbonzo beans are in season, so I decided to pick some up and try the recommended recipe for Josh Dechellis's Charred Garbonzos. It's really simple (just saute in olive oil for 1 minute then sprinkle with salt) and the outcome is out of this world! They taste like heaven (although a little messy to tear open and eat), the colors are vibrant and they are full of protein. The prefect spring snack.

Speaking of Hilary Rhoda...

This image from Vogue (not sure from when) has been on my inspiration board since I started Loup! The Dries Van Noten outfit is one of the first things to inspire me to think of athletic clothing in a new way. Plus Hilary's all American look just kills in it.

Saturation Nation

Loved this image in last month's Vogue and it reminded me of one of my favorite W spreads from a few years ago. So I decided to dig through my old Ws, dust off my copy of April 2007 and see if the spread shot by Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, styled by Alex White and staring Hilary Rhoda still inspired me. Sure did! Something about the colors and energy and still get me excited. Here are some images.

"I just want to say to everyone like me who chose slightly more complicated paths, the roads less traveled, the ones with lots of roadblocks and long stretches of anguish, I just want to say that the most important thing is to always be moving toward your desire. Just do the things that make you smile and you’ll always end up somewhere. Even if that place is not anywhere you’d imagined you’d be at the start.

As it was on this illustrator’s path that one fine day, frustrated by yet another horoscope commission (Rarrrrr, shit, how am I supposed to draw a brand new Sagittarius for the 6th time?), I made the decision to start this blog. …Just to draw what I wanted and hear what people like me thought of my drawings."

Maria's pretty cool

via Tennis Served Fresh

Maria Sharapova is probably one of the most popular female tennis stars today, but it's easy to forget her moments of extremely cool fashion choices and nonchalant attitude. Like here, choosing to wear Chloe to her Cole Haan launch in 2009. Good choice Maria, I like you a lot.

Just some jewels

I can't help but die over this Irene Neuwirth creation and it's insanely vibrant colors. I'm not usually one for big fancy jewels, but this makes me want to dive into the ocean and play with mermaids.

Crew neckin

Love Steve McQueen, his bike and a nice worn in crew neck sweatshirt

Some Fall before Spring

Spring is almost here, but I'm getting pumped on FH 2010 Loup inspiration. So far: Apres Ski + Jessica Lang in Tootsie + a dash of Nureyev

Tennis Girl

Photographer Martin Elliot passed away last week, but left us with this iconic image that still makes me giggle.

Trendsetter

Suzanne Blecher wrote an incredibly great article on Loup and the inspiration behind its fabrics for Textile Insight. It's the first time Loup has been in actual print! You can see it online too. Thanks Sue!
